Aditi & Nihal, The Leela, Mumbai | Tulu Wedding

It's been a long long time since we've blogged about a wedding, finally we are back :) Here's a sneak preview into Aditi & Nihal's wedding. They got married this April, Tulu style. Sometimes the universe brings the perfect mix of people together, like puzzle pieces waiting to be made whole. There are moments when we feel the gravity of what we are able to do and feel so good about it!

The celebration commenced with the mehendi, an intimate function with just close family and friends around.

The evening progressed with the sangeet function at The Club, Mumbai which was full of beautiful performances by friends and family. To this extent that few friends went a bit insane on the attire :)

The following day started with an early cocktail party at The Kino Cottage, Mumbai. The stone carved interiors with beautiful buddha figures evoked a completely different feel to the evening.

A tiny pool out in the open and some water volleyball made the evening perfect.

For the wedding Aditi wore a traditional kanjivaram saree accented with beautiful jewellery from Kalyan Jewellers and a delicate gold headpiece embellised with beautiful 'Mallige' a kind of flower.

The Wedding was a traditional event at The Leela Hotel, Mumbai. It was a true Tulu wedding as the couple exchanged vows in true Vedic style. The décor and the shehenai too reflected a regal and uber traditional sensibility.

A Tulu wedding starts with a 'Moorta', a pooja  where the bride has to sit in the mandap with her aunt and perform few rituals followed by showering the bride with jewellery after which the groom steps in.

Kanyadaan ritual had a little bit more to it in this wedding. Two coconuts are made bride and groom, the bride one has a mangalsutra around it. Bride's father then pours water from the kalash (metal pot) with that coconut on it symbolising giving his daughter to the groom and his family.

The wedding was followed by the Joota chupai and Reception where people would come and put some rice on their heads and give their blessings to the newlyweds.

We were able to sneak the couple for some shots with pretty interiors of The Leela. Well, we thought they must be tired after having a reception with more than 1000 guests but they were just getting started for a happily ever after :)
